[Game Review] Super Charge: Unboxing - A Childhood Dream Come True

Toy-themed games have always been a delicate existence. Toys themselves have their own gameplay and target audience, and nowadays they need to rely on more film, television, and game IP images to enhance their appeal. Games with toys as the theme have become even more powerful with a triple buff. For example, the LEGO series of games leverages its strong IP image to integrate IP copyright advantages and adopts a light-hearted and satirical style, targeting both film and television IP audiences and LEGO players. As for "Super Rush: Unboxing," this game does not rely on other classic film and television IPs. Instead, it uses the nostalgia of childhood retro toys and combines it with modern gameplay to create a game that surpasses the audience of the toys themselves. So how is this work, which uses toys as the theme and electronic games as the main focus?

Fulfilling your childhood imagination

The gameplay of the game can be said to be extremely rich, almost encompassing all the gameplay that an FPS game can have. I believe that when we played with toys as children, we would imagine various gameplay and scenarios, arranging soldier figurines and creating fortresses or defense measures for our figurines. This game deeply restores all of that.

The game combines "tower defense, design, and exploration" gameplay into one, with the core goal of protecting the super core in the game from being destroyed. During the process, enemies will attack multiple times, and players can create defense measures or upgrade firearms to repel them. The resources and upgrade elements in the game are scattered throughout the map, and players need to explore the map freely, making the entire game process more rich and interesting.

Rare local multiplayer FPS

It is worth mentioning that this game is one of the few FPS games that can be played locally on the same screen. The game itself also requires a lot of strategic cooperation, making it a game that can recreate the joyful experience of playing with toys with friends in childhood. However, this also brings the problem of single-player gameplay being relatively boring and challenging.

More toys than in childhood

This game incorporates a considerable number of defensive structures, such as walls, sticky glue, bomb trees, and turrets, among others. Players can freely carry the building blueprints they want, and unlocking new blueprints requires meeting certain conditions or using points to unlock. In the game, there are also a variety of weapons that can be used, each with a different feel.

Overall, this game is more about ideas than execution. The chosen theme and the presented effects are good, but the gameplay itself is somewhat shallow, lacking in long-term replayability. However, for a dream-come-true work, being able to see the toys one used to love come to life is already wonderful enough.
